RENIA – Colle de Cologne – The Real “All Purpose“ Cement
Renia Colle de Cologne is a premium, German-engineered grafted polychloroprene (CR) contact cement developed by Renia GmbH. Formulated 100% free of Toluene and MEK, it delivers exceptional bonding strength, rapid initial tack, and permanent elasticity under high-stress conditions.
Specially tailored for automotive trimming, leathercraft, furniture upholstery, footwear, and marine applications, it creates a flexible, crystal-clear bond line that resists heat, vibrations, moisture, and aging.
Key Highlights & Advantages:
- Cold Bonding or Heat Reactivation: Can be pressed cold during open time or heat-reactivated using a hot air gun or infrared lamp (IR lamp 80°C for 3 min) for delayed assembly.
- No Toluene & No MEK: Safer working environment inside workshops and vehicle cabins.
- Bonds Plasticized PVC (Vinyl): One of the very few CR cements capable of bonding plasticized PVC/vinyl without plasticizer migration issues.
- Fast Crystallization & High Green Strength: Bonded components can be trimmed, skived, or tension-fitted just minutes after pressing.
- Hardener Compatible: Mix with 5–10% Renia Hardener for maximum resistance against extreme heat, oil, fuel, and plasticizers (essential for vinyl-to-vinyl or natural rubber).
Recommended Materials & Applications:
- Automotive & Marine Trimming: Headliners, dashboard wrapping, door cards, seat bolster repairs, campervan acoustic & thermal insulation, and marine vinyls.
- Leather & Upholstery: Genuine leather, chrome leather, suede, synthetic leather, foams, and furniture fabrics.
- Footwear & Rubber: EVA, TR (thermoplastic rubber), natural rubber, PUR, and sole repairs.
- General Workshop: Cork, felt, wood, cardboard, textiles, and rigid plastics.
Material Preparation & Application Guide:
Surface Preparation: Sand all materials thoroughly. Clean oily/greasy surfaces (like PVC or TR) with a suitable solvent cleaner.
PE / PP (Polyethylene / Polypropylene): Briefly touch the surface with an open gas flame to activate adhesion.
TR (Thermoplastic Rubber): Sand and apply Renia Rehagol Primer; wait 5–15 minutes before applying adhesive.
PUR (Polyurethane Foam): After sanding, press foam with absorbent paper to remove any residual moisture/oil. Pre-coat with Renia Primer for PUR without delay to reinforce soft foam.
PVC to PVC / Natural Rubber: Mix cement with 5–10% Renia Hardener.
Application: Apply an even, uniform layer of Colle de Cologne to BOTH surfaces.
Open Assembly Time:
General Materials: 5 – 30 minutes
TR Rubber: 3 – 15 minutes
PVC / Auto Vinyl: 10 – 45 minutes
Can also be dried quickly under an IR Lamp (80°C for ~3 minutes).
Pressure & Pressing:
Standard Pressure: 1 – 5 bar (15 – 60 psi) depending on material density.
Minimum Press Time: 1 bar = min. 60 seconds; 3 bar = min. 15 seconds.
Note: The softer the material (e.g., foam, soft leather), the less pressure should be applied to prevent deforming the substrate or destroying the adhesive film.
Curing: Initial strength allows immediate handling. Full bonding strength and chemical resistance develop continuously over the first 24–48 hours.
Technical Data:
- Basis: Grafted Polychloroprene (CR), Toluene & MEK Free
- Shelf Life: Minimum 12 months at 20°C in original sealed container
- Thinner: Renia Schnellkleber-Verdünner (Do NOT use acetone as a thinner!)
- Cleaning: Clean glue pots, brushes, and tools with Renia Schnellkleber-Verdünner or acetone
PRECAUTIONS & SAFETY:
FOR PROFESSIONAL USE ONLY. Flammable liquid and vapour. Use only in well-ventilated areas or under forced extraction. Keep away from heat, hot surfaces, sparks, open flames, and ignition sources.
