RENIA – Rehagol – Halogenating Primer for TR & Latex
Renia Rehagol (Halogeniermittel / Primer for TR) is a specialized chemical surface halogenating agent formulated in Germany by Renia GmbH. It is engineered specifically to treat and chemically activate non-polar and difficult-to-bond Thermoplastic Rubber (TR), synthetic elastomers, vulcanized rubber, and natural latex.
Thermoplastic Rubber naturally resists adhesion and repels standard contact cements. Renia Rehagol chemically alters the top molecular layer of the rubber, transforming inert surfaces into an active bonding site that forms unbreakable bonds with polychloroprene (CR) and polyurethane (PUR) adhesives.
Key Highlights & Advantages:
- Chemical Halogenation: Etches and chemically prepares dense TR and rubber surfaces at a molecular level, preventing delamination and edge peeling.
- Universal Adhesive Compatibility: Enables treated rubber to be bonded securely with Renia Colle de Cologne, Multi-Colle, Top-Fit, and Syntic-TOTAL.
- Fast Reaction Time: Chemically activates the substrate in just 5 to 15 minutes, allowing rapid workshop turnaround.
- Deep Penetration: Works effectively on both raw, molded, and sanded rubber surfaces.
- Amber Glass Protection: Preserves the active halogen chemical solution against UV light and premature oxidation.
Recommended Materials & Applications:
- Automotive & Marine Trimming: Surface priming of rubber door seals, boot/trunk gaskets, window channels, weatherstripping, and rubberized trim mouldings before gluing to body panels or fabrics.
- Footwear & Orthopaedics: Essential pre-treatment for all TR (Thermoplastic Rubber) outsoles, molded unit soles, transparent TR, and latex components.
- Industrial & Workshop Repairs: Bonding vulcanized rubber sheets, elastic seals, gaskets, and flexible elastomer strips to leather, wood, plastics, and metals.
Usage & Application Guide:
1. Surface Preparation:
• Sand or abrade the TR rubber surface to remove mold release agents, glaze, or oxidation.
• Ensure the surface is clean, oil-free, and dry.
2. Primer Application:
• Apply a thin, even coat of Renia Rehagol using a clean brush (use brushes without metal ferrules, or apply with a lint-free cloth/felt).
• Note: Do NOT pour unused Rehagol back into the original bottle to prevent contamination.
3. Reaction & Drying Time:
• Allow the primed surface to react and dry for **5 to 15 minutes**.
4. Adhesive Application:
• Apply your contact adhesive (Colle de Cologne, Multi-Colle, Top-Fit, or Syntic-TOTAL) to the primed rubber and the mating surface.
• Bond and press following standard adhesive guidelines.
