RENIA – ReGuMet – Rubber-to-Metal Specialized Contact Cement
Renia ReGuMet is a specialized, German-engineered heavy-duty contact adhesive developed by Renia GmbH. It is engineered specifically for direct bonding between metal surfaces and flexible materials without requiring a separate metal primer.
Formulated 100% free of Toluene and MEK, ReGuMet delivers extreme peel strength, excellent shock and vibration resistance, and permanent elasticity under demanding mechanical stress.
Key Highlights & Advantages:
- Primerless Metal Bonding (Ohne Primer): Bonds raw steel, aluminium, galvanized sheet metal, and coated metals directly to flexible materials without a separate metal etching primer.
- Extreme Shear & Peel Strength: High-tensile bond line designed to withstand continuous pulling, mechanical vibration, and dynamic load stress.
- Permanent Vibration Dampening: Cures to a tough, elastic polymer layer that absorbs road vibrations, chassis movement, and temperature expansion between dissimilar materials.
- 100% Toluene & MEK Free: Safer, lower-toxicity formulation developed for enclosed vehicle interiors and professional workshop spaces.
- Cold Bonding or Heat Reactivation: Can be joined cold within its open assembly window or heat-reactivated using a hot air gun (70–80°C) or IR lamp for delayed assembly.
- Hardener Compatible: Mixing with 5–10% Renia Hardener provides elevated resistance against extreme heat, moisture, fuel, oils, and harsh weather conditions.
Recommended Materials & Applications:
- Automotive, Campervan & Marine Trimming: Bonding rubber seals, foam insulation, sound-deadening mats, leather, and carpet directly to vehicle body panels, steel pillars, bulkheads, and aluminium frames.
- Machinery & Equipment: Direct mounting of rubber vibration dampers, wear plates, anti-slip rubber sheeting, and gaskets to metal enclosures.
- Footwear & Orthopaedics: Bonding steel shanks, metal orthotic supports, and reinforcement plates to leather, EVA, and rubber outsoles.
- General Workshop: Multi-material assemblies involving steel, aluminium, brass, dense rubber, genuine leather, EVA, PUR foam, and wood.
Material Preparation & Application Guide:
Surface Preparation:
• Metals (Steel / Aluminium): Sand or mechanically abrade the metal surface to remove oxidation, rust, or paint. Degrease thoroughly with a suitable solvent cleaner.
• Rubber / Leather / Foam: Sand surfaces to open pores and remove dust and loose fibres.
Application: Apply an even, thin coat of Renia ReGuMet to BOTH bonding surfaces. Apply a second coat to porous materials if required.
Open Assembly Time:
• General Working Window: 5 – 30 minutes (allow solvents to flash off until touch-dry).
• Quick Drying: Can be accelerated under an IR-Lamp (80°C for ~3 minutes).
Pressure & Pressing:
Standard Pressure: 1 – 5 bar (15 – 60 psi) depending on material firmness.
Minimum Press Time: 1 bar = min. 60 seconds; 3 bar = min. 15 seconds. (Ensure firm, uniform contact across metal edges with a hand roller or press).
Curing: Instant initial grab allows immediate mechanical handling and trimming. Full tensile strength and chemical cure develop continuously over 24–48 hours.
Technical Data:
- Chemical Basis: Specialized Polychloroprene (CR), 100% Toluene & MEK Free
- Specific Feature: Primerless metal bonding (Gummi-Metall ohne Primer)
- Open Time: 5 – 30 minutes
- Shelf Life: Minimum 12 months at 20°C in original sealed container
- Thinner: RENIA – Schnellkleber-Verdünner (Do NOT use acetone as a thinner!)
- Tool Cleaning: Clean equipment, pots, and brushes with RENIA – Schnellkleber-Verdünner or acetone
